3 Killed, 36 Hurt in J'lem Bulldozer Terror Attack

A Palestinian driving a huge piece of construction equipment went on a deadly rampage along a central thoroughfare here Wednesday, crushing several cars and ramming into two buses before an off-duty soldier and a police officer clambered up to the cabin and shot him.

At least 3 people were killed in the path of the lurching front-end loader and more than 40 were wounded, Israeli officials said.

Daniel Pipes coined the term: Sudden Jihad Syndrome, which argued that "the absence of ties to an international terrorist group like Al-Qaeda does not mean the act the act is not terrorism."

It is a good enough descriptor for the phenomenon for mentally-deranged persons who go on a killing rampage of Jews, and other infidels.

We have seen it before:

...a 30-year-old man claiming he was upset about "what was going on in Israel" opened fire at the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle building, killing one person and wounding five women, one of them pregnant.

"We believe ... it's a lone individual acting out his antagonism," said David Gomez, an FBI assistant special agent in charge of counterterrorism in Seattle.

That was in July 2006.

On June 2008 "A judge declared a mistrial in the case of the gunman who shot up the offices of this city's Jewish federation. The King County prosecutor vowed to retry Naveed Haq, 32, who claimed he was not guilty by reason of insanity."

The judicial system accepts the insanity defenses as an excuse, by which the defendant argues that he/she should not be held criminally accountable for a crime of murder due to being legally insane at the time of the crime.

Now we have Media Outlets formulating their words carefully around the story. Since the perpetrator was not known to be affiliated with a terror organization, then there is some doubt as to whether he was a terrorist, or just insane.

Insane either the Seattle killer or today's Jerusalem attacker may have been, but it is interesting that their insanity did not prevent them from making resolute and coherent choices, such as picking up a shotgun or driving a bulldozer, transport themselves to a busy street or a community center where Jews are to be found and then proceed to mow them down, one way or another.

Marty Peretz on today's attack, here.

And how Iranian News service reported on the horror:

The Zionist terrorist state admitted today the annihilation of at least 4 Israelis, and the injury of 45 others in the occupied Islamic city of Bait ol-Moqaddas. The state radio of the illegal regime said that in a martyrdom-seeking operation a Palestinian activist drove his bulldozer into several Israeli vehicles on the Yafa Street of Bait ol-Moqaddas, as a result of which at least 4 Zionists were killed and 45 others incurred severe injuries. The radio also announced that before Zionists forces martyred the Palestinian, he managed to destroy 2 Israeli buses and many vehicles, in an act to show his deep hatred towards the atrocities committed by the usurpers of his homeland.
