Looks like Brooks likes Obama but has concerns about his apparent lack of passion.
He describes him as a candidate that would look perfect to many Canadians, maybe not so to Americans.
I doubt Obama lacks passion. I think he's just expert at keeping it under wraps for the campagn.
I must say I don't get exactly why Obama is tagged as an intellectual, often in some pejorative sense. Why it should be a handicap is beyond me but I don't see him that way any more than many candidates for high office.
What exactly is it that causes him to be identified that way?
Noga, my last comment wasn't meant to be anonymous. I seem to have done something wrong.

Perhaps because Obama has published nothing of merit in his field? Yes, he has published two auto-biographies but for someone who is supposed to be a "constitutional law scholar" that is a pretty weak record of publication and hardly indicative of an intellectual.
David Brooks is the week Conservative on the Newshour, opposite Mark Shields.
Its similar to the set up on Fox where Alan Combs plays the weak Leftwinger to Sean Hannity's hard line.
