Pusillanimity

The state or condition of being pusillanimous; timidity; cowardliness.

Bret Stephens pointedly asks:

"What is Israel's predicament? It is this: It is surrounded on nearly all sides by enemies who are aggressively committed to its destruction. And too many people who call themselves its friends are only ambivalently committed to its security."

This reminded me of Sartre's acidic wisdom about Jews and antisemites:

“The cause of the Jews would be half won if only their friends brought to their defense a little of the passion and the perseverance their enemies use to bring them down.”

mostly dissecting the NYT 'report' by Mark Landler:

"...“Sensing trouble,” the Times article continues,“the Obama campaign and Democratic Party leaders have mobilized to solidify the president’s standing with Jewish voters. The Democratic National Committee has established a Jewish outreach program.”

Jewish outreach? It’s odd to see those two words combined. Jews aren’t usually considered a “diverse” population. Quite the contrary. In 2008, Jews ranked first in household income, personal income, and educational attainment among white Americans, who in turn ranked higher than any demographic group except for Asians.

So how exactly does the White House envision reaching out to this essential bloc of voters? DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz, herself one of the chosen people, explains, “We just have a lot of people lying about the president’s record, and we have to push back on it.” Problem solved! All the White House has to do is convince the group that is better educated than every other demographic save one to ignore what their ears and eyes tell them and believe Obama."

BTW, Rick Perry's op-ed criticizing Obama's ME and I/P policies and the pal quest at the UN is in both the JPost and WSJ tomorrow (Friday).

CNN is not going to able to keep up with Perry changing the subject :)

see ya
